Producer/Engineer
Producer/Engineer
Julian Dreyer, Grammy Award Winning Chief Engineer of Echo Mountain Recording based in Asheville, NC
I have over 20 years of experience with live and studio audio engineering/production and work on all styles of music, drawing techniques and inspiration from one and applying it to others.
My production is about you. Your vision, your aesthetic, your inspiration brought to life. I feel that my role is to help you find and define the music that is in your head and cut a path to realize it at its full potential. I do what I can make sure the process is gratifying, enjoyable, and comfortable. My mantra is "follow the song." This means that I leave myself open to the natural path the song creation process wants while being careful not to ignore the interesting side roads that appear along the way, the happy accidents, and the occasional artistic hair-pin turn. I understand how the process of making a recording goes and I am here to guide you around potential pitfalls and obstacles so that you can focus on the music.
My approach to engineering is a mix of best practices and whatever works. This means that there is a method but I am not a slave to it. As an engineer I am here to find the tones that best serve the song. Sometimes that means clean and natural, while other times it means grimy and distorted. I relish the integration of techniques across musical styles and there are few rules in recording that cannot be broken given the right situation. The prime objective is always to render the artist's vision.
